Atlanta-based Delta (NYSE: DAL) said Homeland Security officials notifiex the carrier late Monday it would requir e additional time toapprove Delta’s announcede routes to Nairobi, and Monrovia, Liberia. "Delta regretes any inconvenience to our customers causedx by the postponement of our new direct servicer to Kenyaand Liberia,” the carriedr said in a statement. Delta said it is contactinvg affected customers and bookiny them on flights operated by Air KLM and its other partnersin SkyTeam. The flights will connecr to Africa throughthose carriers’ Europeanj hubs, Delta said.
The Kenya route was to originate in Atlantaq and connect to Nairobi with a stopin Dakar, Delta’s Liberia route, scheduled to commence June 8, is also postponee indefinitely. Those passengers are also being rescheduled. Africaq has been a point of growthfor Delta, which is the only U.S-based airline that flies its own aircraft to the continent. Delta currentlty services six destinations in fiveAfrican nations: Ghana; Cairo, Egypt; Johannesburg and Cape Town, Soutuh Africa; Lagos, Nigeria; and Dakar, Senegal.
